The Zenana Hospital started in 1931 with 165 beds & 2 units. It was attached with SMS Medical College in 1952 for MBBS Course in Gyane & Obst department & Prof. E. Peters was Head of the department.
It has expanded to 17 units till date and 7 units are functioning in Mahila Chikitsalaya (7th unit was recently introduced on 15.3.2019), 6 units at Zenana Hospital and 3 at Gangouri Hospital and 1 unit at Kanwatiya Hospital with the bed strength of 50. Total beds in the Gynae & Obst department are 1195. Dr. B. S. Meena, Sr. Professor is Head of the Department since 5.8.2019.
All the 4 hospitals are attached to the SMS Medical College of the Government of Rajasthan. It caters to the need of Rajasthan and also the neibhouring areas of other states.
The MS (Gynae & Obst) was started in 1957 in the department & DGO course was started from 1977. Now the department has Postgraduate intake is 48 since 2017 & total Postgraduate students are 144 in the department. The department developed a robust PG teaching, training and evaluation programme.
The gynaecology OPD functions Monday to Saturday days to week between 8:00am to 2pm.
The Antenatal OPD functions Monday - Saturday between 8.00am to 12 pm. Universal HIV screening done.
Department also runs specialty clinics in infertility, Cancer, Colposcopy, Menopause, Postnatal, Obstetric Medicine, High risk pregnancy, Endoscopy, Gynae Endocrine and Adolescent Gynaecology.
Family Planning Services
Family Planning Services started in 1958 in the department. OPD timings are from 8am to 2 pm. postnatal follow-up, IUCD insertion, Laparoscopic sterilization, MTP with sterilization, Abdominal sterilization and recanalisation procedure. Individualized Counseling is given regarding contraceptive methods.
STD & RTI Clinic
Department runs daily STD & RTI Clinic.
The Charak Bhavan has the Raj Care IVF centre, unit for Assisted Reproductive Technologies, wherein IUI services and IVF-ET services are offered regularly since Oct 2009.
Various national programmes Bhamashah Scheme (BSBY), JSSY, JSSK, MNDY, MNJY and newly introduced laQshya (labour room quality improvement initiative) programme is successfully being run.

Peripheral postings of the residents include 15 days in Anesthesia & Neonatal & 7 days in Radiodiagnosis, Radiotherapy, General surgery, Urology, Medical Oncology & Surgical Oncology during their 3 year of Post-graduation.
Training Programmes for Medical Officers
The department runs regular training program of CAC, PPIUCD & BEmOC for Medical Officers.
Zanana Hospital, Jaipur
Zanana Hospital was started in 1931 with only 165 beds, It got attached to SMS Medical College in 1952. PG courses (M.S.) was started in 1957 and DGO in 1977.
The present bed strength is 534 including Neonates ICU beds (4 Gynae ICU & 4 Neonatal ICU).
The Family welfare center was started in 1958. The neonatal unit was started in 1965 in a single room which has taken the present shape of separate block of neonatal unit.
A Separate block for laboratory facility & Blood bank is also available at zanana hospital.
The Zanana Hospital (Obst. & Gynae.)has recently been completely renovated and some more facilities will be added soon such as new OPD block, one P.G. Hostal with 96 rooms near entry to the hospital gate at Jhotwara road.

JAIPUR: Transport minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas visited the Kawantia District Hospital, Chandpole Zanana Hospital, Banipark Satellite Hospital and TB Hospital Shastri Nagar to inspect and cheer up the medical staff and sanitation workers. He also enquired about the wellbeing of the patients admitted at the hospital and distributed 200 PPE kits to the hospital administrations. He also felicitated the doctors, nursing staff and cleaning staff for their dedication and hard work.
