A. Structure
· Department has 8 units in SPMCHI, 2 neonatal units in Zenana Hospital and Mahila Chikitsalya and 1 pediatric unit in Gangori, Kanwatia and Sethi Colony Hospital.
· All units have adequate facultyand facilities as per MCI norms.
· Department has 764 indoor beds.
· Department is supported by round the clock Central lab, Radiology department, Blood bank, Emergency and Echocardiography services.
B. Programs & Services Offered
· All the faculty members of the department, participate actively in national programmes like RNTCP, ART etc.
· Department also caters specialty services to the people by providing special clinical- services like Cardiology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Hemato-oncology, Neurology, Endocrinology & Rare Diseases.
· Department was actively involved in swine -flu epidemic of 2012 to control the disease. Suspected & diagnosed patients were admitted to the Hospital in isolation wards and they were treated accordingly. This work was done in collaboration with state & Central Govt authorities & other actively participating tertiary hospitals.
· Department actively participated in National, International & WHO days and for awareness of all the strata of society about their health care promotion & prevention of diseases.
· We have separate DOTS center for screening, counseling and treatment for tuberculosis patientsand immunization clinic in which children are immunized.
· Department is also providing services to the B.Sc. Nursing Government college students.
· Department is organizing guest lectures on common topics and burning issues of healthcare management.
· Various awareness programs are arranged for the common people & for medical & paramedical staff.
· Department is nodal centre for IMNCI, F-IMNCI, MNTC, NSSK trainings.
· A child development clinic (CDC) is running three days a week.
· Department is running newborn screening program for CH, CAH & G6PD
· Department is running stem cell Counseling cente
Department of Pediatrics Surgery
General Information
· Sawai Mansingh Medical College is the premier medical College of Rajasthan.
· The department of pediatric surgery was commenced on 1st july 1965 under professor K.C. Sogani, as he was trained in pediatric surgery from UK and USA.
· The department has the credit of first successful surgical repair of tracheo-oesophageal fistuala(TOF) anomaly in the country in 1971.
· The department was recognized by University of Rajasthan for training in pediatric surgery (MNAMS) in 1973. It was the first super specialty to get this credit.
· It was the first super specialty department in SMS Medical College, Jaipur to start post doctoral degree course of MCh in the year 1978. Since then, more than 80 candidates have passed out MCh from this centre, making the department one of the largest contributor to pediatric surgeons in India.
· The department was shifted to Sir Padampat Mother & Child Health Institute (SPMCHI), popularly known as J K Lon Hospital in July 1980, which is the biggest pediatric hospital in the country with bed strength 764.
· The present total bed strength in pediatric surgery department is 200, including 40 neonatal surgical ICU beds. The department has 4 surgical units comprising of

· Every year 10 seats are approved by MCI for MCh course, the highest in the country.
· Currently the department boast of preparing future pediatric surgeon with advance technique and knowledge viz. Pediatric Laparoscopy, Video Assisted Tharoscopy Surgery ( VATS), Urology, Neuro-Endoscopy and Clinical Research.
· Recently we have identified 7 nano genes causal for Cogenital Pouch Colon (CPC), a high type of anorectal malformation. This discovery of ours was published in reputed journal – Nature Scientific Reports.

EDUCATION & TRAINING
The department offers super specialty programs M.Ch. (Latin-Magister Chirurgiae) to students after completion of postgraduate studies in Surgery. Each student admitted in the program has to work under a faculty member. A well equipped library and research facilities is available in the department for the students. Class lectures and clinical training is part of the program. The department also conducts workshops national and international and CME, where students come in contact with top pediatric surgeons and learn new techniques. Department also has facilities of advance instruments like Laparoscope, Cystoscopy, Bronchoscopes, Harmonic scalpel, Esophagoscope, Ligature Vessel Sealer, Portable Intraoperative Ultrasound, Portable X-Ray machine etc., which trains students to use them properly and effectively. Admission to the program is through NEET Superspeciality test conducted by National Board of Education(NBE). Currently 10 seats are sanctioned by MCI. On the basis of merit and the choice of candidate ,the college is allotted accordingly.

1. OT Interaction include case presentation, discussions on surgical procedures and steps, instruments and their uses
2. Resident doctors, who is going to present case/seminar will inform the HOD/ Notice Board about the Topic of respective case/seminar, at least 48 hrs before the scheduled date.
3. Topic of the month could be decided by the HOD e.g malignant masses for one month and then system wise for next few months.
4. Two original research papers by residents as first author to be published in MCI approved journals as a mandatory prerequisite for eligibility for MCh examination.
