At Glance:-
The department is actively engaged in teaching, research and patient care activities since its inception. Various radiotherapy services offered to the patients are External beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy. Every year approximately 2000 new patients consult department for various treatments by radiotherapy and nearly 10,000 patients are on follow up after treatment by the departments. New patients are usually registered on referral after pathological confirmation of neoplasm/malignancy. The department has the comprehensive set up for treatment of various cancers, in combination with surgery and chemotherapy. This department has post-graduate programme (MD in Radiotherapy).
In addition, department is involved in patient care services in different patients suffering cancer of Breast, Gastro-intestinal, Liver, Head & Neck , Lung, Bone & Soft tissue, Cervix/Uterine, Brain and Blood . It has a very busy day care OPD where around 60 patients are attending per day. In addition, patients are admitted in the regular ward also, more than 5000 patients get chemotherapy on an OPD/IPD basis and OPD based procedures are carried daily.
This department has been also actively working with various NGO’s to increase cancer awareness in schools and in the communities. The faculties have been participating in many Continuing education programs/workshops/symposia on various topics regularly over the last several years including cancer screening and awareness, cancer management and modern technologies to fight against cancer.
Radiation Medical Physics section is looking after radiation related research, radiation dosimetry, radiation protection and measurement of radiation dose to staff and attendants, radiation protection survey for radiological imaging installation (CT scanner, x-rays, and mammography) of medical College. Other activity includes staff and public education regarding radiation safety, Teaching Medical Physics and Radiation Safety to MD (Radiotherapy), MBBS students, nursing students and other interested groups and individuals.
