In Mathura Das Mathur Hospital, Dr. S. N. Medical College, Jodhpur Urology Unit was started in 1985. It is only Urology superspeciality unit in Western Rajasthan. The department is providing 24 hrs. Urological service to all districts of western Rajasthan like Jodhpur, Pali, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jalore, Sirohi, Nagaur, etc. The area covered in this zone is almost 40% of total area of Rajasthan. Urological problem is very common in young, aged males & females which required specialized service and management facilities. Urology unit of        Dr. S. N. Medical College, Jodhpur is the second largest institutional service of Rajasthan after Urology department of S.M.S Medical College & Hospital, Jaipur. PCNL, RIRS, HOLep, KTP, urodynamics, ESWL facilities is available in S.N medical College Jodhpur. Our department is now recognized center of Renal transplantation.

Working    Pattern of Urology Unit

(a)       Number of operative Days per weeks                  -       6     (8 OT)

(b)       Number of OPD Days per weeks                         -       7

(c)       Number of Emergency & Referral Service per week      -       7

(d)       Number of Teaching Classes per week                 -       6

The above data shows tremendous work pressure on urology unit. To fulfill the above increasing work pressure of urological patients of western Rajasthan for better patient care and public interest more manpower, advance urological instruments & machines are required to combat patients needs.

We run a 7 day a week OPD services, simultaneously 6 days a week operation theatre, all seven days 24 hours referral & Emergency services, teaching programmers & research work which requires a high number of qualified urologists. Round the clock duty in general, PCNL & ESWL ward requires qualified MS Senior residents & Qualified MS CAS. For better services creation of 3 units are required one under Professor & one under Associate Professor for better urological health care quality & quantity work in due course of time.

Renal transplant program

A kidney transplant is a surgical procedure to place a kidney from a live or deceased donor into a person whose kidneys no longer function properly.

Kidneys remove excess fluid and waste from blood. When kidneys lose their filtering ability, dangerous levels of fluid and waste accumulate in your body — a condition known as kidney failure or end-stage kidney disease. A kidney transplant is often the best treatment for kidney failure.

Only one donated kidney is needed to replace two failed kidneys, making living-donor kidney transplantation an option. A compatible living donor should be available for a kidney transplant.

First live-donor related renal transplant in western Rajasthan performed in Department of Urology, Dr. S.N. Medical, Jodhpur on 6/12/2018 under guidance of S.M.S Medical college, Jaipur.

Our department provide comprehensive care in acute & chronic kidney disease with post-operative close follow-up in synchronicity with department of nephrology including renal replacement therapy counselling, renal laboratory test & biopsy, immunosuppression therapy.

Department of urology is providing vascular access ( A-V fistula) for hemodialysis including patients on maintenance hemodialysis & pre-transplant list.

With pioneering experience & successful renal replacement in harmony with related departments including nephrology & anesthesia, department of urology  will continue the program for patient awaiting renal replacement in western Rajasthan
