UNDERGRADUATE (MBBS)
The Academic Section of Dr S N Medical College and Attached Hospitals, Jodhpur under the esteemed and dynamic visionary and head of the Institute, The Principal and Controller oversees the dissemination of Medical Education as per the norms set by Medical Council of India (MCI), India and Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS). The section ensures the smooth administration of undergraduate, postgraduate, certificates course – work in clinical specialties and super- specialty courses in Medical Sciences as per the stipulations of MCI and RUHS. The section also oversees the execution and conduct of the ancillary undergraduate Para-medical program as per the stipulations of RUHS. All issues related to the academia of the above cited course- work including admission process, syllabi, stringent scholastic schedule, examinations, scholarships and measures to evolve the education process akin to Medical and its ancillary Para-Medical program are dealt with in commiserate with the demands and dictates of the prevailing times.
The elaborate and evolved scheme of Medical Research, that forms an essential part of Medical Education, is also addressed by the Academic Section of the Institute. The research work at the undergraduate, postgraduate and super-specialty level is routed through an evolved well-developed structured screening protocol to evaluate the veracity, relevance, ethics and the benefits that a research study would give to the society. The research proposals are processed through Institutional Research Review Board (IRRB), Clinical Trial Screening Committee (CTSC) and a well- organized Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) that ensure and promote research activity at all levels of undergraduate, postgraduate and faculty domains so as to maintain and promote patient- care. It is also ensured that inter-disciplinary research with involvement of specialists from all fields of application medical sciences and basic sciences get the right impetus and support.
Selection Procedure
The admissions are on the basis of merit with constitutional reservations, done by the centralized process by Govt. of Rajasthan. The breakup of seats is 15% by DGHS though All India PMT of all seats. The course structure and content is set according to the guidelines laid down by the Medical Council of India. It consists of 9 semesters each of 6 months duration. The first 2 semesters are devoted to the pre-clinical subjects - Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry and after this period of 12 months the 1st Professional examination is held. The maximum marks are 200 for each subject. In the next 3 semesters, the student studies and is examined in Pathology (150 marks), Microbiology (150 marks), Pharmacology (150 marks) and Forensic Medicine (100 marks). During this period the students also introduced to the clinical subjects through lectures and clinical postings by rotation. During the last 4 semesters, the students studies only the clinical subjects - Internal Medicine including Cardiology and Neurology, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Psychiatry, Dermatology and Community Medicine through lectures, demonstrations and clinical postings.
Examination Pattern
The final professional examination is held in two parts. Examination Part-1 is held at the end of the 7th semester and includes the subjects of Community Medicine, Ophthalmology & Otorhinolaryngology . At the end of the ninth semester the examination part-2 of the final professional examination is held in Internal Medicine, Surgery & orthopedics, Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynecology. Examinations in the clinical subjects include written, clinical and oral parts. According to the Medical Council of India, a candidate must have at least 75% attendance in clinical postings and lectures and also have secured at least 35% marks in the internal assessment to be eligible to be appear in the professional examination.
