Department Of Biochemistry
Apart from teaching, clinical laboratory investigation work is also done in the department. With the new concept of centralization of laboratories in 1999, Central collection centre was established. And biochemistry, pathology & Microbiology were brought under one roof as central lab.
In the biochemistry section of central lab, the samples of indoor & outdoor patients of SMS hospital (about 15,000 tests/day) are collected & analyzed on fully automated analyzers & timely reports are given to the patients for further treatment by clinicians. Investigations done are serum sugar(F&PP), Urea, Creatinine, Uric Acid, Calcium, Phosphorus, Iron, TIBC, Total Proteins, Albumin, Globulin, A/G Ratio, Total Bilirubin, SGOT, SGPT, Alkaline Phosphates, GGT, Acid Phosphates, CPK, CPK-MB, Amylase, Lipase, Lipid Profile (Total Lipids, Phospholipids, Triglycerides, Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, VLDL) Glycated Hb & HbAlc, ABG, Serum electrolytes, CSF & Ascitric Fluid.
In Immunoassay lab, blood samples of patients (about 1500 tests per day) are analyzed on chemiluminescent analyzers. Investigations done are FT3, FT4, TSH, ANTI TPOAB, TSH, LH, Prolactin, Beta HCG, Testosterone, Cortisol, HGH, PTH, Insulin, Ferritin, Vitamin b12, Folate, Vitamin D, CEA, AFP, CA-125, PSA & Total IgE.
Also, there are Biochemistry Labs in, Trauma centre, Gangori hospital, TB & chest hospital, J.K. Lone hospital, Psychiatry centre, Zanana hospital & Mahila Chikitsalaya; where about total 5000 tests daily are done.
Demonstration, Lectures, Practicals, Clinical Lab Training , Hands on training ,Written & Oral Assessments, MCQ discussion, Tutorials, Surprise Quiz, Mock Test, Seminar, Journal Club, Guest lecture, Clinical case discussion/ Problem based learning, Group Discussions, Quiz.
Dissertation, for M.D. Ph.D. & M. Sc.
